Qi and Acupuncture
The body can be mapped into multiple Meridians. Each Meridian is associated with a particular physiological system and an internal organ, and communicates with the surface of the body at specific locations which are acupuncture points.
As long as there is good flow of Qi along these channels, there is good health and function. When this flow of Qi is obstructed, there is imbalance of Qi in parts of the body and organs, and dysfunction develops.
The quality, quantity and balance of Qi directly impact health. Many things can influence Qi including physical and emotional trauma, accidents, lack of or excess of activity, stress, not enough sleep, and poor diet.
With acupuncture, thin needles are inserted into specific points along the Meridians to promote the smooth flow of Qi and regain balance in the body.
Many research studies have demonstrated the benefits of acupuncture. Among other things, acupuncture has been shown to stimulate the immune system, improve digestion by regulating peristalsis, and reduce pain by regulating pain receptors and serotonin secretion.
